SiyaQhubeka Forests (SQF), in partnership with Mondi South Africa and SAFCOL, has increased community ownership through a significant equity transfer to the SiyaQhubeka Community Trust (SQT). The trust’s shareholding has risen from 5.4% to 15.4%, enhancing local communities’ economic participation in the forestry sector.
Speaking at the handover, Mondi’s representative, Themba Vilane, emphasized the company’s commitment to transformation and sustainable development. SQF Board Chairperson, Dinga Mncube, highlighted the transfer’s impact on inclusive growth, sustainable business, and strong partnerships.
As a Level 1 BBBEE contributor, SQF integrates commercial forestry with conservation, operating within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. The enhanced shareholding structure aims to boost local enterprise development, job creation, and skills training, aligning with South Africa’s broader transformation goals.
