In a beacon of optimism, the Mfolozi community recently participated in an Integrated Development Plan (IDP) coordinated development community meeting orchestrated by the King Cetshwayo district municipality. This vital gathering, held at the Ntuzuma Community Hall in Ward 17, aimed to showcase the progress made by the municipality and, equally important, to lend a patient ear to the public’s grievances and aspirations.
Addressing the Water Crisis: A Mayor’s Commitment
A pivotal moment unfolded as the Honorable Mayor, Councilor AT Ntuli, took center stage at the Ntuzuma Multi-Purpose Center during a public meeting focused on resolving community issues. Mayor Ntuli empathetically acknowledged the distressing reality faced by the residents of Ward 17 – the acute shortage of water. Despite having purchased 18 dedicated water transport vehicles, a lamentable delay in water delivery persists, extending to three weeks.
Undeterred by challenges, Mayor Ntuli revealed a substantial investment, amounting to approximately 100 million, dedicated to revitalizing the water infrastructure in UMfolozi. He passionately declared an end to the practice of weekly water deliveries, emphasizing that the community deserves timely and reliable access to this essential resource.
Crucially, Mayor Ntuli underscored the importance of transparency in water distribution. He pledged that the community would be kept informed about scheduled water deliveries, ensuring that each resident knows when to expect water in their areas. Additionally, he assured that any issues with water tanks during installation would be promptly addressed and rectified.
Mayor Ntuli expressed a profound hope that his presence and initiatives in Mfolozi would usher in a transformative era, mitigating the water crisis and improving overall living conditions. He emphasized the municipality’s commitment to the well-being of its residents.
In a candid update from the spokesperson for water management in Mfolozi Municipality, the community was informed about the ongoing efforts to rectify the persistent water problems that have plagued the area. The spokesperson acknowledged the long-standing challenge and provided insights into the current hurdles faced in ensuring a reliable water supply for the Mfolozi community. Expressing sincere regret for the prolonged inconvenience faced by the community, the spokesperson issued an apology. The acknowledgment of the persistent problem reflects a commitment to transparency and a shared understanding of the challenges that residents have been enduring.
The heart of the problem lies in blockages within the water supply lines that hinder the proper flow of water to the community. This has led to disruptions and inconveniences for residents who have grappled with this issue for an extended period.
Providing a glimpse into the infrastructure in place, the spokesperson revealed that Ward 17 has 52 water tanks, with 15 additional locations earmarked for the installation of water tanks. Umfolozi, as a whole, boasts a total of 23 tanks actively working to supply water to Jojo tanks.
A proactive measure has been the preparation of nine pits for public use, signaling a step towards expanding water access. The water from these pits is undergoing rigorous testing to ensure its readiness for public consumption.
Despite the concerted efforts, the spokesperson admitted that achieving a consistent water supply directly from taps will take time. The complexities involved in resolving blockages and ensuring a seamless flow demand meticulous attention and persistent work.
Undeterred by the magnitude of the challenge, the water management team is dedicatedly working to overcome the obstacles. Their commitment to ensuring a reliable and continuous water supply reflects a resilience that mirrors the spirit of the Mfolozi community.
Empowering Businesses: A Financial Boost for Entrepreneurs
Complementing the water-focused initiatives, the municipality distributed seedlings to enhance food security within the community. Residents were encouraged not only to cultivate these seeds for personal consumption but also to sell the produce, fostering economic self-sufficiency. Further empowering the community, Mayor Ntuli handed over 15 sewing machines to women entrepreneurs, particularly those involved in sewing school uniforms. This strategic move aims to bolster local businesses and uplift women in the community, recognizing their vital role

In a move to stimulate economic growth, Mayor Ntuli highlighted a financial initiative aimed at supporting local entrepreneurs. A significant fund of R20 million has been earmarked to assist individuals starting businesses. Mayor Ntuli specifically identified sectors such as sewing, grass cutting, vending, and more as recipients of this financial support. The mayor expressed a sincere desire to witness the flourishing of these ventures, contributing to the economic prosperity of the community.
As the wheels of progress turn, the community is urged to exercise patience, with the assurance that every effort is being made to resolve the water woes comprehensively. The spokesperson’s update serves as a beacon of hope, signalling not just acknowledgment of the issue but a determined effort to pave the way for a future where access to clean water is a reality for all in Mfolozi.
