Today marked a significant stride in bolstering security measures for the upcoming festive season as the Minister of Police in South Africa, Mr. Bhekokwakhe Hamilton Cele, graced Richards Bay’s Boardwalk Inkwazi Mall with his presence. Undertaking a comprehensive walkabout within the mall premises, his visit aimed to fortify security arrangements as the year-end celebrations kick off in 2023.
Addressing a pressing concern, Minister Cele took a firm stance on the issue of illegal firearms circulating within communities. He emphasized the necessity of promptly surrendering these weapons, assuring the public that returning such firearms to the nearest police station voluntarily would incur no repercussions. Stressing the urgency of the matter, he urged the South African Police Service (SAPS) to proactively seek out not just firearms but any implements that could potentially be wielded for serious bodily harm. He highlighted Esikhawini and Enseleni as hotspots for illegal firearms and pledged diligent efforts to reclaim these weapons from unlawful possession.
Beyond firearms, Minister Cele extended a cautionary message concerning substance abuse, cautioning against driving or even walking on roads after consuming alcohol. His vigilance extended to acknowledging and commending King Cetshwayo for exemplary behavior, reinforcing the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining peace and order.
This proactive engagement by Mr. Bhekokwakhe Hamilton Cele signifies a concerted effort by law enforcement to mitigate potential risks and ensure a safe and secure environment for all citizens during the festive season.
