SASSA announced they will stop all Gold Cards from working. These cards will no longer work at ATMs stores or Post Office locations. This change will affect many people who get social grants like pensions disability payments and child support through their Gold Cards. Anyone using a Gold Card needs to act fast to keep getting their payments. SASSA is making this change to update their payment system and make it more secure. They want people to switch from the old Gold Cards to newer payment methods that offer more options. The new system will be better and easier to use for everyone who gets social grants.

Why Are SASSA Gold Cards Being Phased Out in 2025?

Postbank’s Gold Cards were the main way to send payments for a long time but they are now outdated. The bank decided to stop using them to reduce fraud and make payments safer. They also want to give people more options for their money. SASSA is now moving to better payment options. People can use their own bank accounts or get new Black Cards from Postbank. These Black Cards do more things than the old ones & have better security features.

Gold Card Expiry Timeline & What Happens If You Don’t Switch

All Gold Cards will stop working on March 20 2025. This will happen even if your card shows a later expiry date. You won’t be able to use any money on your card after this date. If you don’t switch to a new payment method before March 20 you might not get your monthly payments. The payments will start again once you change to a new method. We first planned to end the service on February 28 2025. We moved it to March 20 to give everyone more time to switch.

Step-by-Step Guide to Updating Your SASSA Payment Details

You need three things when you go to SASSA or Postbank:

– your ID document your Gold Card and something that shows where you live.

– You can choose what you want to do next. You can get a new black Postbank card to replace your Gold Card.

Or you can use your own bank account but it must be in your name and working properly. You won’t have to pay anything & it’s easy to do. Once they update your information you can start using the new payment method right away.

What Are the New Payment Options After Gold Card Deactivation?

People who get grants will have different ways to receive their money:
