SASSA announced on October 25 that pension payments will go up. People between 60 & 75 years old will now get R2,320 each month. Those over 75 will receive R2340 monthly. The R10 boost is part of SASSA’s normal October changes. These changes are smaller than the ones made in April. Even though it’s a small increase it helps older people deal with rising prices. Many pensioners rely on these grants to get by so any extra money makes a difference.

Strengthening Oversight: How SASSA Is Cracking Down on Fraud with New Review Measures
SASSA has made its review process stricter to stop fraud and make sure only the right people get benefits. You might get a text message before your next payment asking you to check your information. If this happens you need to go to a SASSA office to update details about your money and life situation. If you don’t do this your payments might stop until you complete the process. Starting September 2025 SASSA will need new applicants to provide biometric details. This means they will take your photo and fingerprints to verify who you are. Current benefit receivers will also need to do this if SASSA reviews their case or if they want to change how they get paid.
New Applicants Alert: What You Must Have to Qualify for the October 2025 Grant Boost
You need to be at least 60 years old & have a South African ID to apply for the Old Age Grant. You should bring your bank statements from the last three months if you have a bank account. If not just show how you want to get paid. You also need to prove where you live with a recent document from the last three months. Make sure to bring papers that show if you’re married & how much money you make. If you’re applying again or updating your information you must tell us about any changes to your pension money assets or income. If you don’t follow the rules or make too much money you might have to pay back extra grant money you got.

When SASSA reviews your benefits, you need to show your ID your latest bank statements and a document that proves where you live. If SASSA finds out that you earn more money than allowed each month, they might ask you to pay back the benefits. You can pay back the money all at once or set up monthly payments with some interest. You can also arrange to have the money taken directly from your bank account.
