For the past two years, Senzushintsho has been a beacon of change, formed by a group of Polo drivers with a shared vision: to reshape the perception of Polo drivers within communities. Their aim was clear – to counteract the notoriety associated with reckless driving and alcohol abuse, prevalent not only in Richard’s Bay but across the country. Their mission was to make a meaningful impact in Mzingazi, the area where most of them reside, while extending their helping hand beyond to KZN and other regions like Pietermaritzburg.
The organization’s membership is not confined to Polo drivers alone; it’s open to anyone with a compassionate heart, regardless of owning a car. Senzushintsho’s primary focus is on changing lives and giving back to the community.
Their efforts are visible through monthly donations of groceries to families in need. While acknowledging the enormity of living expenses, they believe every contribution, though seemingly small, goes a long way in aiding these families. Among their most cherished initiatives is the Back to School program, providing school essentials to children from underprivileged homes, a gesture that significantly impacts their education journey.
However, Senzushintsho faces financial constraints. The entire operation is sustained by contributions from its Polo Crew drivers, who allocate a portion of their salaries monthly. Despite these constraints, their dedication pushes them to aspire for more. Witnessing dilapidated homes during their deliveries motivates them to extend their assistance beyond groceries – they aim to build two houses annually for deserving families.
While recognizing government initiatives like the R350 grant, food parcels, and RDP housing, they feel a civic responsibility to contribute where possible. Their commitment goes beyond material aid; they accompany their donations with heartfelt prayers, wishing for employment opportunities and improved wellbeing for these families.
On December 2nd, 2023, Senzushintsho will host a community event at Ngonondweni Hall in Mzingazi. The event aims to foster collaboration among stakeholders involved in community assistance. They plan to facilitate discussions on how to access aid and additional funding. Alongside this, a market will be set up for vendors, ensuring they leave with full pockets for the festive season and school expenses. Additionally, ten lucky families will receive food parcels to enhance their Christmas celebrations.
Looking ahead, Senzushintsho’s goals for the coming year include continuing their monthly groceries assistance, providing school uniforms and shoes, and building two houses for families in need.
The organization extends an appeal to potential partners, encouraging collaboration to impact lives, one family at a time.
