South African Local Government Games held in King Cetshawayo District kick started today, as yesterday was an official opening Ceremony of SALGA KwaZulu-Natal Games by Honourable Mayour of King Cetshwayo District who is also the Chairperson of SALGA in KZN.
Today various District are participating in this sport event , and they will be battling it out over 16 sports codes, namely: basketball , Cricket , Chess , Cricket , Dance , Golf , indigenous games , Netball and many more . Over 3000 people are attending this SALGA games event , which will develop the Economic growth of King Cetshwayo District Municipality as a hosting City. The games will take place at Velden Vlei Sports Complex .
King Cetshwayo District did not start on a high note on SALGA games as they suffered loss after loss on different sport codes,following Ethekwini dominating and taking most of first positions,however Kingcetshwayo girls under 17 on shot put and long jump brought back and restored the district’s dignity by taking number 1s.Amahle Mbatha took position 1 in Shotput while Snethemba Ngwenya took position 1 in long jump.both girls couldn’t contain their excitement indeed Dynamites comes in small packages .Hoster’s dignity has been restored.
Two Young Ladies under 17 Years , Snethemba Ngwenya and Nonzuzo Thusi from King Cetshwayo District Municipality Athletes saved the day for King Cetshwayo District Municipality as they achieve position 2 and 1 under 17 they took away two Gold Medals home for the category of Long Jump
Coach of King Cetshwayo District Municipality Athletes Proud of the performance of King Cetshwayo District Municipality players Mr Mphumeleli Xulu who is a coach for Sprints Long Distance and Short Distance of King Cetshwayo District Municipality Athletes team says he is proud of the performance of his players under the Team King Cetshwayo District Municipality although they encountered multiple challenges during the preparation of the KwaZulu-Natal SALGA GAMES but they tried their best to best prepare the players . One of the challenge they encountered was with the Matric Students , they had limited time to train them hence they were busy focused on their school work . He further disclosed that the King Cetshwayo District Municipality has so far achieved 5 Gold Medals and six silver Medals and more.
Ms. Nxumalo, an Executive Board Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Athletes Board and a World Athletic referee, played a pivotal role in these games. Holding the positions of Meeting Manager and Director of the competition, her expertise guided the successful execution of the event.
Ms. Nxumalo, in an exclusive interview, expressed her satisfaction with the exceptional performances witnessed during the games. She commended the high level of athleticism displayed and conveyed her happiness with how smoothly the competition progressed.
Beyond the games themselves, a significant focus was placed on athlete safety. Ms. Nxumalo and the organizing committee diligently ensured the presence of emergency services on-site before the commencement of the games. Their concerted efforts reflected a commitment not only to athletic excellence but also to the well-being of the participating athletes.
