The ANC Women’s League in the Musa Dladla Region celebrated a Blousing Ceremony on February 17, 2024, bringing together members of all ages. The event aimed to educate and emphasize the importance of wearing the ANC Women’s League uniform, particularly the blouse, detailing its significance and guiding proper conduct while adorned in it.
During the ceremony, ANCWL veteran Mom Getty explained the historical context of the ANCWL blouse, emphasizing the symbolism behind its five buttons. Originally, there were only four buttons, each representing:
1. Discipline
2. Honesty
3. Loyalty
4. Transparency
A recent addition, the fifth button symbolizes being a good listener. Mom Getty stressed the importance of members being mindful of these values while proudly wearing the ANCWL blouse.
Notable figures from the ANC Women’s League National Executive Committee (NEC) graced the event, including Deputy President Lungile Gcabashe, Secretary General Nokuthula Nqaba, and NEC members Bukiwe Fanta, Ntombikayise Sbhidla, and Dada. The provincial PTT and various other ANCWL representatives were also present.
The blousing was officiated by Deputy President Lungile Gcabashe, with the swearing-in led by Mrs. Thembeka Mchunu from the Musa Dladla Region. First-time wearers pledged to abide by the ANC constitution, emphasizing their commitment as volunteers without expecting personal gain.
Deputy President Gcabashe urged members to actively engage in the upcoming election campaign, spreading awareness about voter registration and educating the community about the voting process. Additionally, the ANCWL demonstrated its commitment to women’s empowerment by handing over equipment to support a young woman owning a beauty spa.
The ceremony was attended by the Musa Dladla Region’s Deputy Chairperson, Mr. Phiwa Mhlongo, Regional Secretary Nathi Mdanga Xulu, and Deputy Secretary Mrs. Babhekile Mthembu. Deputy Chairperson Mhlongo delivered a heartfelt message of support. The Youth League, represented by Zikhona Zitha, and the ANCWL Young Women’s Desk, represented by Baphiwe, also delivered messages of support.
