The recent launch of the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) 2024/25 by the King Cetshwayo District Municipality Council saw a significant turnout from the Mlalazi community. Residents congregated to voice concerns and address issues affecting the Mlalazi area.

Mayor Xulu of the Mlalazi council, speaking at the IDP call convened by the King Cetshwayo District Municipality, emphasized the ongoing budgeting for 2024 and 2025. She highlighted the pivotal role of community input in shaping the budget by sharing grievances and needs.

During this comprehensive gathering, Mayor Xulu outlined several ongoing and completed projects aimed at addressing community concerns. Notable projects included the ongoing revitalization of the Mahlabane sports field, road infrastructure improvements, and the refurbishment of a community hall accommodating 500 individuals in Ward 3.

Updates on completed projects were shared, such as the successful repair of the Ezisululwini Gravel Road in Ward 4, alongside advancements in urban road renovations. However, challenges surfaced in the implementation of the KDS Sport Park project in Ward 12, leading to its temporary suspension.

Significant financial allocations were highlighted, including the investment of R7.5 million in the Eshowe Mpushini Cemetery, benefitting 15 individuals through employment opportunities, and R500,000 for the Eshowe taxi rank. Various ongoing or completed housing projects across different wards demonstrated the council’s commitment to addressing housing needs within the community.

Mayor Xulu reiterated the council’s support for local initiatives, distributing seedlings and resources to foster self-sustainability among those actively engaged in Mlalazi’s development. Safety measures were also implemented, with 28 individuals employed to ensure the safety of elementary school students commuting on roads.

In a notable addition to the event, the Department of Home Affairs set up a mobile office to facilitate the issuance and application of ID cards. This initiative was timely, given the approaching Voter Registration weekend in preparation for the 2024 National Elections. Additionally, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) was present to educate voters on their voting rights, stressing the importance of voter registration and the impact of not participating in the electoral process.

Furthermore, Mayor Q. T Xulu highlighted the completed projects and ongoing endeavours in Mlalazi council’s IDP programs. These included the Ward 4 gravel road, generating 17 employment opportunities, and the urban roads initiative in Ward 7. Significant budget allocations were announced for projects such as the KDC Sport Park in Ward 12 and the Eshowe Mpushini Cemetery in Ward 11.

Electricity projects and the potential acquisition of a yellow plant for self-preparation by the council were also discussed, indicating proactive measures toward community development.

The unveiling of the IDP showcased collaborative efforts and ongoing endeavors aimed at transforming and improving the UMlalazi community for a brighter future.
