Zwakele Mncwango, the Premier Candidate for Action SA, recently visited the North Coast Radio House on November 17, 2023, to share his perspective in anticipation of the upcoming voter registration weekend on November 18 and 19, 2023, leading up to the 2024 elections.
Background of Zwakele Mncwango
Hailing from the town of Nongoma in Natal, Mncwango’s upbringing was shaped by his father’s work as a security guard in Durban and his mother’s trade in Nongoma. He grew up tending cattle and was introduced to politics through family attendance at party rallies in Nongoma.
Despite humble beginnings, Mncwango pursued education with support from his older brother, attending King Bhekuzulu High School. His pursuit of higher education led him to Durban University of Technology, where he earned a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor of Technology in Business Management. His academic journey continued with a master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
His commitment to learning extended beyond academic achievements. Mncwango completed courses on Strategic Planning and Political Leadership at the International Academy for Leadership in Germany. Additionally, he graduated from the Graduate School in the United States after a course on Good Governance and Transparency. Presently, Mncwango serves as the Chairperson of Action SA in KZN and is slated as the premier candidate should Action SA secure victory in the KZN elections.
Formation of Action SA and Core Values
Mncwango elaborated on the genesis of Action SA, initiated by former Johannesburg Mayor, Herman Mashaba, following his resignation from the DA. Mashaba conducted a nationwide survey called the People’s Dialogue, engaging over 2.6 million participants. The dialogues emphasized values crucial to the new political party, including non-racialism, prioritizing education for all South Africans, and advocating for ethical leadership.
Action SA’s Agenda
Education stands as a cornerstone for Action SA, aiming to establish uniform standards between urban and rural schools, recognizing education as vital to the nation’s backbone. They also intend to address economic disparities by advocating for economic justice, seeking to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor.
Moreover, the party aims to combat corruption, crime, and drug-related issues in the country. Mncwango emphasized the importance of ethical leaders in dismantling corrupt systems.
Coalition Stance and Encouragement for Voter Registration
Action SA expressed openness to coalition governments, except with the governing party, citing it as a cause for the people’s suffering. Mncwango encouraged voter registration, highlighting that voting would only be permitted at registered locations for the upcoming national elections in 2024.
In conclusion, Zwakele Mncwango stressed the significance of voter participation and urged citizens to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming elections.
