Deputy Mayor of the City of uMhlathuze, Councillor Christo Botha, expressed his gratitude for a recent contribution towards the beautification of Alkantstrand Beach. SA Water Products, one of the key sponsors, donated new benches and supported the creation of colourful murals by local artist Sydney Mabaso.
“We are here to give thanks to the sponsors and our business community for stepping up to assist us,” said Deputy Mayor Botha. “They have been fantastic to work with, showing an open heart and open hands to the community of Richards Bay.”
During his visit to Alkantstrand Beach, Councillor Botha gave special recognition to Selwyn and Annie Govender from SA Water Products for their donation of five new benches. He praised their support for local talent by sponsoring Mabaso’s vibrant artworks, which have added to the visual appeal of the beach.
The recent beautification efforts come at a critical time. The beach has been significantly impacted by rough waves over the past few months, with water reaching far beyond its usual range, leaving the area in an unsavory state. Transnet is actively working to restore the beach in time for the upcoming festive season, ensuring it is ready to welcome visitors.
Councillor Botha also extended his gratitude to all sponsors and the broader business community, emphasizing their crucial role in enhancing the city’s tourism appeal. He noted that these beautification projects not only make public spaces more welcoming but also contribute to the economic development of uMhlathuze.
Through this collaborative effort, the City of uMhlathuze aims to attract more visitors to the area and strengthen its position as a key destination for both tourism and business in KwaZulu-Natal.
