The water scarcity issue plaguing Mfolozi Municipality, a part of the King Cetshwayo District Municipality, has persisted for over a decade, causing distress among its residents. Recognizing the severity of this situation, the King Cetshwayo District Municipality has joined hands with South 32 in a joint effort to address this pressing need for adequate water supply.
In a significant development, a ceremony marking the commencement of essential infrastructure was held at the Nonsobo Community Hall in Ward 4. This initiative, spearheaded by the partnership between the King Cetshwayo District Municipality, South 32, and under the leadership of Mayor Bhengu of Mfolozi, unveiled plans for a project aimed at resolving the longstanding water shortage affecting not just one, but eleven wards within Mfolozi Municipality.
The infrastructure project, set to receive an investment of R5.7 million from South 32, is a crucial step towards providing clean and sustainable running water to approximately 10,000 residents across the eleven wards. These wards include 4, 7, 1, 3, 5, 9, 10, 12, 13, 11, and 17 within Mfolozi. This initiative is expected to span a year, commencing earlier this year, with a focused goal of significantly improving the lives of the local community.
Aside from the much-needed relief this project promises to bring to the residents, it also carries a positive economic impact. The endeavor is projected to generate over 50 employment opportunities, contributing to the local job market and empowering the community.
The joint efforts of the King Cetshwayo District Municipality, South 32, and the committed leadership of Mayor Bhengu exemplify a steadfast commitment to addressing the critical needs of the community and ensuring a brighter, more sustainable future for the residents of Mfolozi Municipality.
This partnership underscores the power of collaboration between public and private sectors in effecting meaningful change and delivering essential services to communities in need.
