The King Cetshwayo District Municipality has once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting the dreams of local youth by playing a significant role in sending Zibusiso Mpungose, a learner from Empangeni High School to Italy. Zibusiso was selected to be part of the national team traveling to Italy with Southern Cape Tours, offering her a remarkable opportunity to showcase her football talents on an international stage.
The Acting Mayor of King Cetshwayo District Municipality, Honourable Cllr S. Z. Dlamini, expressed immense pride in Zibusiso’s achievement. In a show of support, the King Cetshwayo District Municipality, along with the mayor, purchased Zibusiso’s plane ticket to Milan, Italy, ensuring that she could take full advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Zibusiso will depart on the 21st of September and return on the 30th of September. The King Cetshwayo District Municipality takes great pride in supporting the aspirations of its young people, whether through sports or education. As part of this commitment, the municipality hosts annual Career Expos to guide matriculants in choosing their future paths and provides bursaries for students pursuing higher education. These efforts ensure that financial challenges do not hinder the dreams of talented youth.
Cllr Dlamini also emphasized that the municipality is dedicated to nurturing the talents of children, even when families face financial difficulties. “It’s important that talent continues to flourish and isn’t stifled by circumstances,” he said, adding that this unique opportunity for Zibusiso reflects the municipality’s and community’s commitment to fostering young talent.
Zibusiso expressed her deep gratitude for the support she received from the King Cetshwayo District Municipality and all those who contributed to making her dream a reality. She is now poised to represent her district and her country on the international stage, with her community standing proudly behind her.
Her journey to Italy, from the 21st to the 30th of September, is not only a testament to her hard work but also to the unwavering belief in the potential of young people to succeed globally, with the backing of a supportive community and leadership.
