The KZN Department of Human Settlement, under the leadership of ME SK Nkosi, recently joined forces with uMlalazi Municipality Deputy Mayor Cllr Ngema, Chief Zulu, and former Chief Headman Mr. D Makhathini in a heartwarming visit to Gogo Sbiya, an 87-year-old resident in Eshowe, Kwa Mondi, KwaMfana Ward 13. The purpose of the visit was to present Gogo Sbiya with the keys to her new home, replacing the muddy dwelling that had collapsed on her, bringing her immense hardship.
Gogo Sbiya’s joy was palpable as she received the keys to her new, safe, and secure home, finally free from the fear of ridicule from her neighbors. Expressing profound gratitude, she thanked God for blessing her with a place to call her own.
MEC Nkosi emphasized the department’s dedication to improving living conditions in rural areas, highlighting their focus on replacing unsafe housing structures. In addition to Gogo Sbiya’s new home, MEC Nkosi also traveled to Sunnydale to distribute title deeds to 98 beneficiaries. He stressed the importance of not selling these title deeds, as they symbolize a secure future for the recipients.
Furthermore, MEC Nkosi shed light on the Mondi Project, a 60 million initiative by the department aimed at further enhancing the quality of life for community members in the region. This initiative demonstrates the government’s ongoing commitment to creating sustainable and thriving communities.
The visit to Gogo Sibiya and the distribution of title deeds underscored the unwavering commitment of the KZN Department of Human Settlement and its partners to uplift and empower residents in rural areas. This initiative is just one of many that the department has undertaken since January 2024, as they continue to hand over title deeds and implement projects like the Mondi Project, ensuring a brighter future for all residents of KZN.
