The Mayor of Mhlathuze, Xolani Ngwezi, together with councilors of the municipality, paid tribute to the family of the late former journalist, Jeffrey Zikhali, who tragically lost his life to a fatal shooting just last week.
Expressing deep condolences, the Mayor committed to supporting the family with all necessary funeral arrangements. The service was scheduled at the University of Zululand Sports Grounds in Dlangezwa (oNgoye)on Saturday the 09th of December 2023 at 09:00.
During the mayor’s poignant address, he reiterated his sorrow over the escalating crime that has recently plagued the Mhlathuze Municipality. This grief was compounded by the recent devastating incident in Nseleni, where three individuals lost their lives.
Zikhali met an untimely demise while en route to Ematholanjeni KwaDlangezwa, situated in ward 11, highlighting the tragic circumstances surrounding his passing.
Furthermore, Mayor Ngwezi strongly condemned the recent incidents of violence in uMhlathuze and urged authorities to intensify efforts in combating crime. He also passionately voiced his opposition against the abuse of women and children, especially during the ongoing 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.”
