Today, on the Mqeqeshi Goal Mouth program, we had the pleasure of hosting Craig Webster, a dedicated swimming coach and passionate advocate for water safety. Craig highlighted the critical importance of adhering to rules and regulations around seas, rivers, lakes, and dams to prevent drownings.
Recent statistics have shown a troubling increase in drowning incidents, particularly in the Bay Hall area. This rise is especially alarming among school children, making Craig’s awareness campaign all the more crucial. He emphasized that the campaign will persist, especially within schools, until the message of safety around bathing areas is widely recognized and practiced.
In addition to raising awareness, Coach Craig provided practical tips on how to stay afloat and wait for help when in danger of drowning. His advice could make the difference between life and death in emergency situations, emphasizing the importance of staying calm, using floating techniques, and signaling for assistance.
This initiative also serves to commemorate World Drowning Prevention Day, observed worldwide on July 25th. Craig’s unwavering commitment to spreading the “gospel of safety” is a vital step towards reducing these tragic occurrences and ensuring a safer environment for all.
