The community of Mfolozi warmly embraced the recent allocation of funds during the IDP and Budget Roadshow for the financial year 2024/2025, held at Sokhulu Sportfield in Ward 1 yesterday. Led by the Mayor of King Cetshwayo District, the Honorable A.T Ntuli, the purpose of this meeting was to present development plans to the community and gather ideas and requests for council action.
Mayor Ntuli has committed to visiting all municipalities under the King Cetshwayo District to introduce development initiatives to the communities. He highlighted the pressing need for R48 billion to address the water shortage in the district, emphasizing the critical importance of infrastructure investment.
Today, the King Cetshwayo District Municipality convened an Integrated Development Plan (IDP) session for the uMfolozi community at Sokhulu Sportsfield, Ward 01. Mayor Xolani Bhengu of Mfolozi Local Municipality presented completed IDP projects for the community, clarifying that some road projects fall under the jurisdiction of the National government, not the local municipality.
Following Mayor Bhengu’s address, Mayor A.T Ntuli addressed the community, identifying challenges faced by the King Cetshwayo District Municipality, including issues of incompetence and corruption among employees. He expressed concern over reports of truck drivers misusing resources by diverting water to their families or selling it to the community. While the municipality has taken disciplinary action against some employees, Mayor Ntuli acknowledged that corruption persists and reiterated the municipality’s commitment to rooting it out.
