Today, the King Cetshwayo District Municipality hosted the Third Annual District Prayer, an event traditionally held as Easter approaches, but this year it carries additional significance due to the upcoming national elections. The prayer gathering, a symbol of unity and peace, was held at Madunga area, Ward 14 under the Mfolozi Local Municipality.
Mayor of King Cetshwayo District Municipality, Mr. A.T Ntuli, highlighted the importance of this annual prayer, stressing that it’s not just about seeking divine intervention for the safety of Easter, especially against the road accidents that often occur during this time, but also about praying for peace during the upcoming national elections. This year, with the country facing a crucial election period, the focus extends beyond traditional safety concerns to include political stability and harmony.
During his address, Honourable Mayor Of Mfolozi, Mr. Xolani Bhengu, emphasized the significance of the prayer amidst the prevailing violence in South Africa. He emphasized that the prayer should not solely focus on electoral matters but also seek divine intervention against all forms of violence in the King Cetshwayo District Municipality during the 2024 voting period.
The event received a distinguished guest, Mntwana Phumzile Buthelezi, the daughter of the late Mntwana ka Phindangene, who shared poignant remarks on the importance of combating Gender-based violence. Stressing that Gender-based violence is an ongoing issue that requires daily attention, she urged communities to address this issue continuously and not just during designated activism periods.
In an interview, Mayor A.T Ntuli reiterated the significance of the 3rd Annual District Prayer, highlighting the importance of leaders coming together in prayer. He condemned political violence and called for unity and peace during the electoral process.
Additionally, the prayer gathering, attended by 49 pastors, served as a platform to express gratitude for past blessings and to seek hope and guidance for communities facing various challenges.
