3 AK47 RIFLES SEIZED AND HITMAN LINKED TO MURDER OF RICHARDS BAY BUSINESSMAN ARRESTED
Richards Bay, 09 November 2024; An SAPS task team deployed to prevent,
combat and investigate criminality linked to the theft of mineral and murders of executives and businessmen at Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) mine has registered a breakthrough in a murder case of a prominent business man in the area.
This week, the task team traced 27-year-old Halalisani Mchunu to the Gauteng province. Mchunu was found with a 9mm pistol and three AK47s of which one has already been linked to the murder of the murdered businessman.
Mchunu has already appeared before the Richards Bay Magistrate Court on a charge of murder, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms.
He is being linked to the murder of Mr Sipho Zwelethemba Masuku, who was an RBM contractor. Masuku was murdered on the 09th of August 2024 in Meerensee, Richards Bay. He was found in his Toyota fortuner which was riddled with bullet holes. A passenger in the same vehicle as Masuku was also shot but survived.
The SAPS task team is hot on the heels of other suspects who are believed to have been involved in this assassination.
The Acting National Commissioner of SAPS, Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya has commended the relentless efforts of the task team for working tirelessly in tracing those that are behind the theft of mineral at RBM and those that are linked to murders of executives and businessmen linked to the mine.
