This morning, Shireen, the Managing Director of SANCA, visited the house of North Coast Radio to remind the community of the essential services SANCA provides to help individuals overcome drug and alcohol addiction. SANCA’s comprehensive approach starts with an assessment to determine the most appropriate form of intervention, whether through their outpatient program or by referring patients to a rehabilitation center, depending on individual needs.
Shireen highlighted the far-reaching consequences of substance abuse, noting that it often leads to other social problems and crime within the community. She emphasized that substance abuse can also contribute to unemployment, as it hampers individuals’ ability to maintain stable employment. However, she assured that by taking the first step and contacting SANCA, individuals are well on their way to recovery and a second chance at life.
During her visit, Shireen appealed to the community to support those struggling with substance abuse, acknowledging that quitting substances is a challenging journey, akin to giving up essential parts of one’s daily life. To illustrate this, she proposed a challenge for the community: give up a favorite activity or item, such as coffee or social media, for a week. This, she said, would help people understand the difficulties faced by those trying to overcome addiction and foster empathy and support for their recovery journey.
SANCA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting individuals with substance abuse problems. Although they charge a small fee for their services, they ensure that no one is turned away due to an inability to pay. This commitment to helping everyone means that SANCA relies heavily on fundraising to sustain its operations.
One of their key fundraising initiatives is the International Golf Day. This year marks the 6th Annual Golf Day, set to be held at the Empangeni Country Club on June 22, 2024. The community is encouraged to participate and support this event. Tickets for golf players are priced at R300.00, and there will also be a raffle with tickets available for R50. The raffle prize is a wheelbarrow packed with gardening goodies.
In addition to the Golf Day, SANCA will commemorate Drug-Free Day on June 26 with SANCA Week, featuring exhibition stands at various locations from 10:00 to 14:00. The schedule is as follows:
1. Monday, June 24, 2024 – Boardwalk Shopping Centre in Richards Bay
2. Tuesday, June 25, 2024 – Sanlam Centre in Empangeni
3. Wednesday, June 26, 2024 – Empangeni Municipal Clinic
4. Thursday, June 27, 2024 – Eshowe Mall in Eshowe
5. Friday, June 28, 2024 – SAPPI Clinic in KwaMbonambi
Shireen urged the community to visit these stalls to learn more about SANCA and how they can support individuals battling substance abuse, as well as the organization itself through these fundraising initiatives. By coming together, the community can help provide much-needed support to those on the path to recovery.
