In the year 2023, the Honourable Mayor of The City of Mhlathuze, Mr. Xolani Ngwezi, convened with Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) to discuss the rehabilitation of Alkanstrand Beach. During this meeting, TNPA outlined the procedures and techniques, specifically focusing on the method of sand dredging. The initiative officially commenced on November 4, 2023, and TNPA has been consistently engaged in the maintenance of the beach ever since.
As of today, around 20:00 pm, TNPA has temporarily withdrawn from Alkanstrand Beach to redirect their efforts towards assisting and rehabilitating other ports. This decision reflects TNPA’s commitment to broader port improvements and not solely individual beach projects.
Contractors, responsible for renovating Alkanstrand Beach, are departing last night, January 25, 2024, around 20:00 pm, to engage in projects at other locations. However, they assure a return to the Alkanstrand Beach project, planning to resume their work in March of this year.
TNPA’s temporary withdrawal from Alkanstrant Beach aligns with their commitment to assisting other ports, showcasing a strategic approach to rehabilitation efforts. The contractors’ departure is a temporary shift in focus, emphasizing their versatility while underscoring their dedication to returning to the Alkanstrant Beach project in the near future.
