The UMfolozi Municipality, situated within the King Cetshwayo district, has taken a significant step forward by extending support to emerging local farmers in the region. In a groundbreaking initiative, community members from wards 10, 12, and 13 congregated at Shayamoya Dip in Ward 13 to participate in a program aimed at assisting local farmers as they prepare for the upcoming season.
The focal point of today’s program was the injection of cows, a vital task as the new season approaches. Additionally, residents were provided with medicine to administer to their cows, ensuring the health and well-being of their livestock.
Among the attendees was Mr. Kenneth Mkhwanazi, a 65-year-old farmer from Shayamoya, who expressed gratitude towards Mayor Bhengu for the support extended to them. Mr. Mkhwanazi highlighted some of the challenges faced by local farmers, including a shortage of infrastructure and financial constraints preventing them from purchasing necessary medicine for their livestock. He specifically requested assistance with the refurbishment of the windmill, which plays a crucial role in sustaining their agricultural endeavors.
The initiative undertaken by the UMfolozi Municipality marks a significant milestone in the empowerment and upliftment of local farmers, demonstrating a commitment to addressing the challenges faced by the agricultural community. By providing practical assistance and support, such as access to veterinary care and infrastructure improvements, the municipality aims to foster sustainable growth and development within the farming sector.
As the program continues to unfold, it is hoped that similar initiatives will be replicated across the region, ultimately contributing to the prosperity and resilience of local farming communities. Through collaboration and collective efforts, the UMfolozi Municipality endeavors to create a conducive environment for the success of emerging farmers, ensuring a bright and prosperous future for agriculture in the region.
