In an impressive display of commitment to community development, Mayor Cllr X Ngwezi of UMhlathuze embarked on a comprehensive roadshow, unveiling transformative projects at WARD 7 Mzuvukile Sportsfield eNseleni and Emacekane Sports Field. The Integrated Development Plan (IDP) presented promises substantial improvements across various facets of community life.
Water Supply Enhancement at Nseleni
The Mayor announced a dedicated investment of R 11.5 million for water plants and backup generators to address the longstanding issues surrounding inadequate water supply at Nseleni. This initiative is part of the municipality’s broader strategy to ensure a consistent and reliable water source for residents.
Town Development in Empangeni and Beyond
Empangeni, a town with a history spanning 63 years, is set to undergo a major transformation with an allocation of R65 million for development. Mayor Ngwezi unveiled numerous ongoing projects, including a groundbreaking mall with 146 stores. This initiative is expected to generate 20,000 jobs during construction and create 1,600 permanent positions upon completion.
RDP Houses for Diverse Communities
The Mayor highlighted housing initiatives catering to diverse communities. Sixty-three houses will be constructed at uMhlathuze Village for individuals with disabilities. Near the rehabilitation center eMpangeni, 10,000 houses are planned, featuring both low-cost and upmarket options. Aquadene is set to receive 6,000 houses, expanding housing opportunities for uMhlathuze citizens.
Infrastructure Boost: Hospitals, Airport, and Schools
Significant enhancements are planned for UMhlathuze’s infrastructure, including the construction of two hospitals, a petrol station, and reserved sites for schools. The proposed airport, funded with 250 million rands from Esco and collaborative investor efforts, is expected to stimulate job creation and economic growth.
Informal Settlement Eradication Program
The municipality is actively engaged in an informal settlement eradication program, addressing complications hindering effective service delivery due to housing arrangements. The government remains committed to resolving these challenges and ensuring residents receive the services they deserve.
Taxi Ranks: Streamlining Services and Infrastructure
Mayor Cllr X Ngwezi’s roadshow extended to EMpangeni, where the A Rank taxi rank is set to include a petrol station. Additionally, each taxi rank will house a car wash facility to control unauthorized establishments, preserving infrastructure integrity and ensuring sustainable water supply.
