In celebration of Youth Month, North Coast Radio had the privilege of interviewing Mr. South Africa finalist, Siboniso Mickey Mkhwanazi. Not only is he a contender for the prestigious title, but Mickey is also the founder of Mickey-M Talent Studio, a beacon of hope and opportunity for young, aspiring talents in his community.
Mickey, a 29-year-old dynamic young man, hails from KwesakwaMthethwa. His educational journey began at Mthwana Primary School and culminated in his matriculation from Manqamu High School. Demonstrating an early commitment to his studies, Mickey pursued a BTech in Public Management and Economics from Durban University of Technology (DUT).
With a passion for travel and fitness, Mickey’s journey into the world of modeling started during his tertiary education. Initially skeptical about the industry, he quickly discovered that modeling was far more than just appearances. It offered invaluable lessons in communication, self-presentation, and personal development. This epiphany inspired Mickey to transfer his newfound knowledge back to his community, particularly focusing on the youth of the King Cetshwayo District.
Mickey’s vision led to the establishment of Mickey-M Talent Studio, an agency dedicated to promoting local, unrecognized talent. His goal is to guide young talents through the often treacherous waters of the entertainment industry, ensuring they are well-prepared and protected from exploitation. Having grown up in a small town with limited resources, Mickey understands the challenges these young individuals face. His agency aims to bridge this gap, providing knowledge and opportunities that can catapult local talent onto provincial, national, and even international stages.
The impact of Mickey’s work extends beyond talent promotion. By fostering local talent, he is also contributing to the fight against unemployment, offering new avenues for young people to support their families while pursuing their passions. His efforts are a testament to the transformative power of opportunity and education.
One of Mickey’s other notable initiatives is the Big Brother Project, aimed at high school students, particularly matriculants. This project provides insights into tertiary education, helping students understand and prepare for the challenges ahead. Mickey’s message to them is clear: higher education is not as daunting as it may seem, and with the right guidance, they can thrive.
Addressing the pressing issue of gender-based violence, Mickey advocates for a return to core values. He encourages individuals to reflect on their actions through the lens of spiritual and moral principles, emphasizing love and empathy. According to Mickey, instead of perpetuating the pain experienced in their past, people should strive to spread love and kindness.
Mickey’s dedication to his community is evident in his multifaceted approach to empowerment. From choreographing beauty pageants and grooming models to talent scouting, his contributions are helping to shape a brighter future for many young individuals.
